Commissions
A person who commissions a piece of furniture is a unique individual of sophistication,
imagination and a love for well made, aesthetically beautiful works of art. They
are willing to look past instant gratification and see an end result for which there is
no substitute. Commissions come about for various reasons. It may be the love of a particular
artist’s work, a need for a specific size, a design or idea that cannot be found, the
desire for quality work, the need for personality and expression in your household, and
usually a portion of everything mentioned above.
The Process
The process of commissioning a piece of furniture becomes a collaboration between the artist
and client. Most of my customers remain long standing friends.
When you arrive at the decision that you would like to commission a piece of furniture,
we begin by discussing the project you have in mind. Once I have a good understanding of
your idea I will ask for a design fee, which covers my time working up quotes and drawings.
This fee is usually between $200.00 and $500.00 depending on the project at hand. You will
receive sketches with several different ideas or variations on the piece of furniture.
Once you are satisfied with a design, I begin work on your furniture. When this commitment
has been made I require 30% down toward the total price we agreed on. The remainder will
be due upon delivery or pickup of the work.
You are not only purchasing a piece of furniture, but a unique piece of art. This process
is an anxious and exciting time for both the customer and the artist, but always well worth
the wait. I look forward to working with you.
